    Civil War Terror

This is the largely untold story of a war waged by secret agents and spies on both sides of the Mason Dixon Line. These are tales of hidden conspiracies of terror that specifically targeted the civilian populations. Engineers of chemical weapons, new-fangled explosives and biological warfare competed to topple their enemy. With insight from Civil War authorities, we debunk the long-held image of a romantic and gentlemanly war. To revisit the past, we incorporate written sources, archival photographs and newspaper headlines. Our reenactments bring to life key moments in our historical characters' lives and in each of the horrific terrorist plots.

    Child Warriors

Children as young as seven years old have become hardened combat soldiers and there are currently 300,000 children under the age of eighteen fighting in three-fourths of the world's conflicts. Never before in history have children been used on such a large scale. Some are drugged to stay and fight; others simply have nowhere to go and know nothing else. Technology has reduced the need for expert combat skills, and the proliferation of arms in conflict areas has made the child a serious threat on the battlefield. This special chronicles the incredible personal story of Ishmael Beah, a former child soldier in Sierra Leone's civil war, and the author of the best selling book A Long Way Gone - Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. Also profiled is Yasmin Ardila, a girl child soldier from Colombia, who at the age of sixteen lost her leg when she stepped on a landmine, while fighting for a rebel group.

    17 - Balloons/Army Engineers/Command Centers

Many think manned flight began with the Wright Brothers, but it really began 200 years earlier. As early as 1783, balloons were used in everything from espionage to bombing. Host Hunter Ellis takes a ride on a cluster balloon and looks at the revival of the hot air balloon for civilian use. Next, we see how the Army Corps of Engineers has paved the way from Bunker Hill to Iraqi Freedom. And we compare military command centers to their civilian counterparts used for transportation and energy systems.

    16 - Operation Market Garden

September 17th 1944. 20,000 elite troops descend from the skies into Nazi occupied Holland in a massive airborne assault. In this dramatic race against time, an armored relief force has to fight through sixty miles of enemy defenses and reach the British paratroopers at Arnhem bridge before their 48 hour deadline runs out. The British paratroopers, known as "Red Devils", have orders to hold their positions. This fight would become legendary as they refused to surrender after being surrounded by the German Army. For the first time Aerial reconnaissance photographs taken at the time have now been layered over a 3 dimensional map to create a CGI "model" of the battle allowing the viewer to track the fighting, step by step, from the air. Individual stories of courage and heroism can be placed in the exact location where they took place.

    17 - Crossing The Rhine

The Rhine River is a natural barrier that protects Germany from Western invaders. In March 1945, 90 divisions of men and machines stood ready to cross the Rhine, the last major obstacle that stood between the Allies and the road to final victory over Nazi Germany. At the town of Remagen, American soldiers discover a bridge across the Rhine. The German attempt to blow the bridge in the face of the advancing troops failed. On March 24th 1945 the largest operation since D-Day is launched against the Germans. Aerial reconnaissance photographs have now been layered over a 3 dimensional map to create a CGI "model" of the battle. For the first time these original high-resolution images allow the viewer to track the battle, step by step, from the air. Individual stories of courage and heroism can be placed in the exact location where they took place.

    USS Laffey

The USS Laffey was in reality two great vessels with the same name--the first, DD-459, fought to the death in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in November 1942. The second, DD-724, was at the center of World War II's most intensely brutal kamikaze attack, where it earned the nickname "The Ship that Would Not Die." However, the crew casualties were high: over 30 perished and another 70 were wounded.

    10 - The End Game.

In this hour, Washington faces two mutinies in the Continental Army. Congress is broke and the army desperately needs more help from the French. In England, the opposition to the war grows as Henry Clinton and Lord Cornwallis argue over the British strategy in the South. The French are tired of supporting the war, but Franklin continues to beg for aid. The French finally send their fleet to America, under the command of Admiral DeGrasse. Cornwallis moves his army to Yorktown, Virginia, and the Allied forces close in for the last major battle of the war. Experience the drama that surrounded the founding of the United States in this 13-part series that covers the years between the Boston Tea Party in 1773 to the ratification of the Constitution in 1787.

In the eastern court and army of this powerful emperor, a young Constantine receives the training of a future leader. When Diocletian retires, Constantine returns to his father, one of the emperors in the west, who dies soon thereafter, making Constantine his successor. But when the other Roman emperors begin to turn on each other again, Constantine determines to put an end to such rivalries once and for all. Defeating emperor after emperor, he slowly gains control of the entire Roman Empire and establishes a new capital in the east. Along the way, he has a vision that will change the course of western civilization forever.

    The Bloodiest Day

May 10, 1972 was the biggest day of air combat in the Vietnam War. In addition to great "turn and burn" battles, the dogfights involve some remarkable electronic warfare as F4 Phantoms, F-105s, and numerous other aircraft as they descend on North Vietnam employing advanced radar jamming equipment, smart bombs, and other high-tech gear. Watch as famous battles are recreated using state-of-the-art computer graphics. First-hand accounts, rare archival footage and original shooting supplement the remarkable computer graphics.

    Washington the Warrior.

The George Washington we all know is larger than life, an icon of mythic proportions. But before becoming "Father" of his country, he was a soldier. This unique, in-depth portrait of the Washington we don't always think about begins in 1753, when the 21-year-old obtained an officer's commission in the Virginia militia. While serving alongside British regulars, did brash and sometimes reckless decisions help ignite the French and Indian War? Washington retired from the militia in 1758, but continued to hone his leadership skills. Managing his vast Mount Vernon estate required many of the same talents as commanding soldiers in the field. When America declared independence, Washington was the consensus choice to lead the Continental Army. This is the epic story of Washington's journey to greatness--propelled by intense, often painful, transformation. The man who emerged was a warrior of the purest sort...a man who preferred liberty to power and justice to glory.
